2 :30 p.m.: HOW WINE BECAME MODERN: Design + Wine 1976 to Now
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Wine is a vital force in contemporary life, perhaps the
only comestible to produce its own visual culture. How Wine Became Modern, the
first exhibition of its kind, looks at the world of wine and the role that
architecture, design, and media have played in its stunning transformation over
the past three decades, since "The Judgement of Paris" when Napa
Valley beat Bordeaux and Burgundy.
The exhibition features historical artifacts, architectural
models, multimedia installations, newly commissioned artworks, and even a
"smell wall" to provide a richly textured experience in the
galleries. Discover how important cultural preoccupations of our day, such as
the meaning of "place" and "authenticity" in our
increasingly global and virtual world, play out at this uniquely fertile
intersection of nature and culture. Additional admission cost: $14 group rate.
II. 4:00 p.m. Wine Tasting Reception. Since most of us will be visiting the modern art museum, I am replacing the art gallery venue for our tasting with a restaurant near the museum so we can sit down to sample the vino (location to remain secret). I want to use the occasion to explain and taste wines (plus matching munchies) for our upcoming fundraising program which is described at the PAIRINGS website. We will try a variety of the wines that will be available for our "Pop Up Tasteria" to debut early next year. Members are also encouraged to make a bid on some of the wines for the holidays so we can put our laptop eCommerce system through its paces. More information will follow. In the meantime I hope you will visit our PAIRINGS site.
